Tile flooring is one of the most popular options in floor coverings today. From the easy to install vinyl tiles to the beautiful options for ceramic tile, there is something for just about every taste. Along with beauty, there are a number of reasons why tile is both practical and popular. It's usually easy to install and maintain, comes in a range of designs, and can be used in nearly any room. There are a number of tile designs available, and consumers can choose from a wide range of colors, patterns, and designs. Especially creative homeowners may mix and match tiles to come up with own unique design.

One of the main benefits associated with a tile floor is its ease of maintenance. With both vinyl or ceramic flooring, the tiles require no special cleaning solutions, tend to be stain resistant, and make it much easier to keep clean. The ease of installation is another advantage associated with tile. Often, the flooring installation involves nothing more than peeling a protective backing from each tile and setting it in place.

The different sizes available in Designer Tiles

There is no such term as standard when it comes to tile dimensions. Tile manufacturer offer enormous variety of products from very small 0.5” x 0.5” mosaic to large 24” x 24” tiles to suit in any house design and satisfy any customer needs. Ceramic or porcelain tile typically made of rectangles 16” x 16”, 12” x 12”, 6” x 6” or 4” x 4” with different types of finishes.

Usually 12” x 12” ceramic or porcelain tile are 1/3 of an inch thick. Same size granite or marble tile are often 3/8 of an inch. But in many cases small tiles such as glass mosaic on mesh can be as thin as 1/8 and go up to 3/8 what is typical for many stone mosaic. Generally bigger tiles are thicker, and 2’ x 2’ travertine is often 1/2 of an inch or approximately 13 mm thick. 15 milliliters or 5/8 of an inch tiles are very rare.
